Bridge of Flowers
Arts Gowanus and the NYC DOT Art Program have joined together to present “Bridge of Flowers” by artist Carlton Scott Sturgill, from Cincinnati, Ohio. The colorful installations, located in Brooklyn on either side of the Gowanus Canal on Union Street, bring a taste of the natural world to the industrial fences they are woven into. Made from second hand Ralph Lauren Polo shirts, Sturgill has created one purple and one red rose bush, each entirely from the shirts. The flowers bring a change of pace to the industrial landscape characteristically associated with Gowanus, where Sturgill’s studio is located, with their striking resemblance to real roses.
